Kunjin coffee is named after cherry purchased in the Kunjin region; a specific catchment area in the Waghi Valley. Via partnerships with strategically located cherry-buying points and a commercial sized milling operation, coffee growers do not need to individually process small batches of cherry into parchment. Through the New Guinea Highlands network , local coffee growers in this region can access the market to sell their cherry. This coffee is fully washed and sun dried with parchment being transported back to Goroka for export via the port in Lae.
The processing facilities at New Guinea Highlands ensures uniformity and maintains the quality of the coffee from the Kunjin area. The coffee growers are supported with a premium price for their product.
